Introduce yourself – who you are, a bit of background etc

Well, you want to learn a bit about myself.  Such a topic that is always hard to write about.  Give me a fictional character and I can come up with a background along with what makes them into the person they are in a heartbeat.  In contrary, having to write about myself will probably take me all day to complete this section.  So, forgive me how basic it may seem.

I have a lovely wife and a son who is currently loving putting the puck in the net for the goal.  Fulfilling his hockey desires is focus of our family, which, I’m not going to lie, we secretly really enjoy.  I retired from the United States Air Force in 2016.  That gave me the opportunity to meet new people and experience their cultures.  I always try to incorporate small little titbits of what I learned into my writings.

What is your latest book called

LiT, Part VI: Impasse

What inspired you to write your latest book

This is a continuation of the LiT Series.  As it is nearing the end of the series, it is becoming bittersweet as I come up with how I’m going to leave the reader with Alex’s journey as a Lite Sentry.

Give us a glimpse into your typical writing routine

I wish I had a routine.  Really the most writing I get done is in the morning when everyone is asleep.  It’s just me, the computer, the dog at my side, and the thoughts of what kind of ride I want to take the reader on.  Usually about once a year, I get the house to myself for the weekend.  I take advantage of it and write from usually six in the morning to six at night.  That is when I get main outline of what I want done.  Then it’s just getting to it when I can.  Once the rough draft is done, I take a month off from it before I start the editing process. That is the part I enjoy the most.  That usually takes up about eight to twelve months.

What is your favourite line or quote from your latest book

Well, I’m going to stretch the rules of this question a bit.  I’m going to give you two quotes from two different books.  The first quote will be from LiT, Part III: Pure Heart, because it gives a little insight to our Lite Sentry, Alex.  The second quote I will give you will be from LiT, Part VI: Impasse.

LiT, Part III: Pure Heart - Cardinal Frank is talking to Father Tom about Alex.  “He has chosen her. Now, for the life of me, I don’t know why. You are correct, she is undisciplined. She’s also got a very strong heart. She is mouthy; she also needs that confidence to survive. Remember, He asked her at 17 years of age to risk her life every night to balance the Lite against the Dark, which is growing. If you need a reminder of what we ask of her, just take a look at the scars on the side of her face and neck. Lord knows what the rest of her body looks like.”

LiT, Part VI: Impasse - Gron is taunting Alex in a museum.  “You know, Alex. You lost your chance. You have no idea what we could have brought into this world together.” Roger eyed her up like a juicy piece of meat. “Something like the world had never seen; something more powerful than me, Azrael, or even Vandor. You blew it.”

“I’ll live,” Alex rolled her eyes.

How do you work through a writing block?

I experience this every book, some more times during the writing process than others.  I remember when I was writing LiT, Part V: Darkness Comes, there was something I needed to happen but didn’t know how to get there.  Then it just came to me as I was ironing my shirt for work.  So, I guess I just ponder it until it comes to me and try not to force it.

How did you learn about Fiction4All – if you can remember!

I believe I was just doing an internet search for publishers.  The company took a chance on me and I’m hoping not to let them down.

What do you want readers at home to take away from your latest book

I want the readers to be engulfed in the series to point I get emails and messages about how they felt when a scene in the manuscript took place.  I just want people to ask, “When is the next one coming out?”

Describe your latest book in one word

What was the best advice you received while writing your latest book, if any

I really can’t think of anything.

What are you writing next?

I’m currently writing LiT, Part VII: (no name yet).  And then I’m also working on a novelette that happens in between Part VI and Part VII.  Though, it is turning into a novel, so who knows what I do with it.
