An Illusionary Myth

CHAPTER ONE

Are We Living in a Timeless Universe?

Is time only a concept, a seemingly functional aspect of subjective experience, or a subjective metric of an unreal entity? Is time only a construct of our brains, or is it a material thing that we ought to manage with care?

The inclusion of time in the equations of physics has been questioned by certain scientists, including quantum gravitational researcher Carlo Rovelli and physicist Julian Barbour, who argue that it should be eliminated.

In any case, time is presented to us as a valuable resource, an objective fact. Our culture instills in us the belief that our lives span a finite period, from birth to death, and that this window of opportunity is a resource to be used sparingly.

"Time is an illusion, a construct made out of human memory. There's no such thing as the past, the present, or the future. It's all happening now."

Blake Crouch (Recursion)

To me, time is more like a tool, something we should pick up, use to get stuff done in the relative world, and then put it back on the shelf when we're done. The clock and calendar are tools for gauging our position in time and space, just like a ruler or other measuring gadget.

Time is useful in that it allows us to schedule appointments, prepare for group activities, take trips, and commemorate special occasions like birthdays, but we have allowed ourselves to be enslaved by it.

We may attest to the accuracy of our concept of time by observing its effects on ourselves. Because of how space behaves close to the gravitational pull of a black hole, physicists believe that time is just an illusion humans create in their minds to make sense of the world in which they live. Time and space at one point were classified into 2 separate things. Today, physicists classify them as Space-Time and are the product of the same things. In the next few chapters, I will go more into detail on the subject.

Science explains quantum theory and non-locality as follows (very roughly): Consider A and B, two particles. You could pair them together, split them up, and send one to either side of the planet or galaxy. Ignore the passage of time as you know it while you stimulate particle A and see particle B's immediate response.

This phenomenon is known as particle entanglement. That is to say, regardless of how far apart they are, the two particles' actions occur simultaneously. I mean, it is a stunning discovery. What in the world is going on here? We need to see some sort of connecting frequency waveform or something to prove that there is a real connection here. This also indicates that particles are interacting at speeds much higher than the speed of light.
