EXTRACT OF ANDREW AND THE BIRD

Susu was sad that the grains were not sweet like the ones he used to eat. Then it raised its head and said, “Friends, these grains are not sweet. My master fed me with sugar grains every day!”

One of the pigeons was angry. It hissed and asked, “Then why are you here?”

“It was my master’s fault. He forgot to lock my cage after he fed me in the morning. So when he left for school, I flew away. I thought life here was better but now I see I am wrong,” Susu said. “I cannot be here when I have a good master who cares for me!” Susu looked at its friends and asked, “Is anyone coming with me?”

“To where?” the angry bird asked.

“To my master’s house,” Susu said.

The birds paused and looked at each other. Then one of them said, “I am afraid, your master will kill us!”

“He won’t,” Susu smiled. “He is like an angel.”

“Like an angel?” asked the angry bird. “I have never tasted a sugar grain before and I will like to. Did you say your master will not kill us?”

“If he doesn’t like birds, then he should have killed me before now,” Susu said. It raised its head and looked about. “It is almost evening. Let us go before it is dark!”

The birds were eager to eat sugar grains. Then they followed Susu home.
