Have you heard about the pancakes and syrup defense to robbery? The answers to these questions and more can be found in Time Cops and Other Tales from the Criminal Justice Factory, the memoirs of the author's 30-year career in criminal law. You will find the stories humorous, sad, provocative, or surprising, but they are all entertaining. So come inside the courtroom, take a seat at the counsel table, see the lawyers, judges, cops, and defendants in their natural habitat, Philadelphia's Criminal Justice Factory, and let your expert guide, Andrew J. Heller, counsel for the defense explain how the legal system works...and how it doesn't.

As usual, Mr. Heller handles even the most serious issues with sharp wit. This is a fascinating (and a bit disturbing) look behind the scenes of the justice- or, in many instances injustice- system. Highly recommended! (Amazon) Rating: 5 / 5

Mr Heller provides the reader with several different episodes of his personal experience defending accused persons. His clientele are the “ the low life’s. These people don’t generate much sympathy from the general public but he injects humanity and humor into his tales. His interaction with judges and cops will not make him many friends in those quarters. He is pretty harsh in his criticism of these groups but singles out positive interactions also. He imparts an outstanding description of the inner workings of the system. I especially liked the for format of the case by .case. The reader can put it down and pick it up later..It was entertaining and informative and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can Philadelphia police officers actually travel through time?

Welcome to the colorful world of the criminal justice system, which Andrew Heller ironically refers to as the Criminal Justice Factory. Mr. Heller presents an amusing and instructive narrative of the truth-challenged police officers, curmudgeonly (and honorable) judges, desperate prosecutors, and institutionally disadvantaged clients he encountered in his 30-year career as a court-appointed criminal defense attorney laboring "at the bottom of the legal food chain" in Philadelphia and as an ADA in New York City. Through it all is Mr. Heller's sardonic voice, giving us, as he puts it, a rodent's-eye-view of the criminal courts. Most named individuals are anonymized, but some Philadelphians might recognize an actual name or two. (Amazon) Rating: 5 / 5
